Augmented Lighting

I wanted to share a quick visual effects tutorial on using Optical Flares from Video Copilot within Nuke, taking advantage of the 3D information. I used a camera track I pulled out of 3DS Max and brought in as an Alembic or FBX and used the 3D camera and 3D lights to then generate augmented lighting.

This is just a simple but nice tough to create flares around all of the lights in the shot, very easily that will enhance the shot and make it feel richer.

I am sure there’s other tutorials out there on this, although at the time when I looked I couldn’t find any, so I thought I would share this approach. Enjoy.

PS. I hope to put out more training inside of Nuke, Houdini, 3DS Max, and more specifically on subjects like fluids, dynamics, particle effects and more in the very near future. Keep an eye out I’ll be posting a new career talk over the weekend. Thanks again!

Greetings Allan great Tutorial. It would be great to see a tutorial on how to install the plugin. I have tried to install it without success, it gives me an error when opening the node. I will greatly appreciate your advice on how to install it. Thank you.
