This episode is very focused on more our core habits, how to build a ‘ritual’ to start out your day so you wake up productive and know exactly what you need to get done and go about doing it by batching your tasks intelligently and adding time constraints to all of your tasks so that you’re able to track your succes, eliminate bad habits and be more aware where your time is actually going.

We all want more time in our day to get more done, typically a task takes 30 days of doing daily to form a habit. The more habits we have the more auto-pilot we are to waking up, doing those things and getting them done with minimal effort, and using our goals from Episode 10 (https://allanmckay.goeoqov0-liquidwebsites.com/10/) you’ll be able to create 2-3 additional days a week to focus on those bigger long-form tasks!

Leave a comment I’d love to know your thoughts, and I triple dare you to try an ice bath, 20 minutes submerged, can you do it?!

Over the weekend I will start sending emails occasionally related to these episodes – for instance I will be sending a few exclusive email scripts – showing actual emails I use to reach out to studios for work. For those of you who do sign up for all this exclusive free content: I just ask that you keep it to yourself, as your private bag of tricks, and for example with the email scripts don’t just copy and paste these emails and reword them a little – that’s not what these are for and they will benefit noone doing this if everyone starts sending word for word identical emails. Learn the general concept of strong communication and positioning – and apply it to your own emails, deconstruct what I’ve written and learn from it. That’s all I ask! Enjoy guys!

  1. Hi Allan,

Another great episode! I absolutely agree with every single point of it. I follow most points since many years with a great success. It takes a lot of dedication, but the results are amazing! I normally wake up 4-6am depending on the season and get lot of my personal stuff done before I go to work. I have this habit form practising musical instruments. In the morning our brains are at their top performance (of course after cold shower or ice bath!) and it’s best to use up this potential on work that is most valuable to us. As the day progresses fatigue of our brain increases and we are less productive and creative. That’s why it never worked for me when I tried to do personal projects after work. I usually do the hard work in the morning and in the evenings would do some R+D with no pressure of any deadline. This way I do things in the evening in more relaxed fashion so I come up with ideas easier.

Another good point is to leave work until you are at work. It takes a lot of effort to detach from work. My way of dealing with it aside from keeping phone out of reach is to make sure work e-mails don’t get mixed up with personal ones. I have separate e-mail account for my work and use different e-mail clients for personal and work e-mails so I make sure I don’t see any work e-mails when I don’t want or need to.

Great episode and looking forward to next ones!

    Thanks,
    Wojciech

PS. Never tried ice bath but I take up the challenge!!

  2. I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am completely at your command.
Half the things you do, you might just as well turn over to me,
and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly.
I am easily managed; you must merely be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done, and after a few lessons I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of all great men.
And, alas, of all failures as well.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine.
Plus, the intelligence of a man.
You may run me for profit, or run me for ruin; it makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me and I will put the world at your feet.
Be easy with me, and I will destroy you.
    Who am I?

    I am a HABIT!

  3. Day 2 of new schedule, great podcast. I refuse to take the ice bath in New York’s winter, but the cold showers are good though. Punched 5 people on the way to work. They are doing fine. Thanks again, these are very helpful.

    1. Raphael I never had a bath in New York anywhere I stayed, but I still used to do ice cold showers in winter, NOT FUN I could feel my organs in my stomach all moving around out of shock whenever I did it, but it’s a great way to get your second wind before heading out to all the bars at night!

  4. Totally agree on the balance thing, its such a nightmare on occasion and stressful, the most stressful thing about it and when I have one or two jobs in is that other people who are not in our industry or even sometimes the client do not understand the amount of work and amount of hours needed to do the work needed to create the stuff we create!

I currently do have a morning routine, I have kids, so every morning im up without fail at around 6.30am and not by choice, then its a turn taking doing breakfast or I have a shower, but I always take my child to school in the morning and then when im back im awake and ready to get on with whatever task is ahead, so the routine thing whatever it may be I believe is pretty vital as long as the end goal is for me to be sitting at my desk ready to kick 3D’s ass into submission and create something wonderful, given I’ve got a job in, if not its onto the looking, finding jobs which also is a nightmare and another thing that non industry folk simply do not understand how difficult it is to land one especially one at your actually daily/hourly rate. Websites like People Per Hour are great for quick jobs at a low wage but never bid on a job if you dont think you can do the job within a reasonable amount of time otherwise its a waste of time and time is money.

By the way, loving the podcasts Allan, they are brill and good to have these tips, they are all (upto now) on my mp3 player and I currently like to listen whilst working. 🙂

    Best Regards

    Ian S.

    1. hahaha
I was close to there (finland) once and had the opportunity to jump in a frozen lake, but I guess I was in a different mindset back then! I definitely would be keen to do this if I’m ever in your area! 🙂

  5. Awesome episode!
I just listened to it again, as it has inspired me to take cold showers for the last month and a half (a bag of ice costs more than a 6-pack of beer here in Germany, so no ice baths for me).

Thanks for sharing all of this awesome and inspirational info Allan!
